Adele's '21' goes quadruple-platinum

Adele's '21' goes quadruple-platinum

Critically acclaimed chanteuse Adele is receiving yet another accolade: The Brit's hit album “21” has earned the year’s highest certification to date.
According to a press release, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has awarded the singer a quadruple-platinum plaque for her sophomore effort. (Platinum status is earned by selling one million units, by the way.)
Since its February release, “21” has been flying off the shelves - it was certified platinum by March.
The single “Someone Like You” in itself actually reached double-platinum status; the song has sold over two million U.S. downloads.
Although the singer had to cancel some of her performances because of health issues and an eventual vocal cord surgery, 2011 is shaping up to be a solid year for Adele. The 23-year-old bombshell is also expected to earn multiple Grammy nods when some of the nominations are announced tonight on CBS at 10 p.m.
